Using Careerlister SMTP email with Google apps may require you to use app passwords.
The following requires you to turn on 2 Factor authentication first
Turn on 2-Step Verification
- Open your Google Account.
- In the navigation panel, select Security.
- Under “Signing in to Google,” select 2-Step Verification Get started.
- Follow the on-screen steps.
Setting up an app password.
- Log into your Google Email account.
- In the upper right corner click your logo / username
- Then click manage account Example:
- In the Account Settings page click Security
- Scroll down to the "Signing in to Google" section.
- In the Search Google Account search bar type "App Passwords".
- You may need to sign into your account again
- Select the App as "Mail"
- Select the Device as "Custom"
- Enter "Careerlisterapp.com" in the next step
- Click Generate
- Copy the code that shows up in yellow exactly as it it shown. Copy all letters, numbers and spaces that shows in yellow (see image above as an example).
- Go into CL and paste the App Password into the SMTP Password field.
- Click Test and Save

Create & use App Passwords
If you use 2-Step-Verification and get a "password incorrect" error when you sign in, you can try to use an App Password.
- Go to your Google Account.
- Select Security.
- Under "Signing in to Google," select App Passwords. You may need to sign in. If you don’t have this option, it might be because:
- 2-Step Verification is not set up for your account.
- 2-Step Verification is only set up for security keys.
- Your account is through work, school, or other organization.
- You turned on Advanced Protection.
- At the bottom, choose Select app and choose the app you using Select device and choose the device you’re using Generate.
- Follow the instructions to enter the App Password. The App Password is the 16-character code in the yellow bar on your device.
- Tap Done.
